Little Museums: Uniting a Divided World
A Film Premiering On International Museum Day
May 18, 2026
On 18 May 2026, museums around the world will mark International Museum Day under the theme Museums: Uniting a Divided World.
To mark this occasion, Vox Museorum is creating a short documentary about the cultural phenomenon of Mini‑Museums.
Little Museums: Uniting a Divided World
The film explores how little museums respond to questions at the heart of International Museum Day: how these small spaces function as bridges across cultural, social, and national divides; how they create spaces for dialogue, remembrance, and informal learning; and how they invite people of all backgrounds to encounter and experience history, art, and ideas. It also traces the emergence of little museums, considers how they contrast with larger iconic institutions, and reflects on their growing importance in the cultural landscape.
Underscored by an original soundtrack created by Vox Museorum’s internationally renowned composers, Little Museums: Uniting a Divided World is both a tribute to International Museum Day 2026 and a proclamation of the role these smaller, highly focused museums will play in rebuilding connection, trust, and shared imagination in the years ahead.
Little Museums: Uniting a Divided World is the first in a series of Vox Museorum projects exploring how museums of every scale can help unite a divided world
